Privacy policy
In short
- Yakitsuke has no account, no ads and no tracking.
- We count downloads, updates and update checks only as totals by day and country, without IP addresses or IDs.
- Your photos stay on your Mac and your camera. We never receive them.
- The app contacts our servers in only two cases: to check for updates, and when you choose to send a bug report.
- Bug reports are deleted automatically after 90 days.
Who we are
Yakitsuke is made by Cheng-Hsien Han, an independent developer (“we”, “us”). For anything about this policy or your data, write to support@yakitsuke.com.
What stays on your Mac
Yakitsuke works on your Mac. It keeps the following there, and none of it is sent to us unless it goes into a bug report you send (see below):
- Your library: the folders you add, and for each photo its file name, location, and shooting information read from the file (camera, lens, exposure, capture time and film settings). Yakitsuke does not read the GPS location in your photos.
- Your work: recipes, conversion history, settings, and backups of your camera’s custom settings.
- Logs in
~/Library/Logs/Yakitsuke. They include file and folder paths and the commands sent to the camera, and are limited in size. - Caches: previews (deleted after 7 days), copies of bug reports you prepared (deleted after 30 days), and crash data from the app.
Files you export are saved where you choose, next to the RAF by default. They keep the metadata your camera writes, which can include location if your camera recorded it, and JPEGs also record the recipe used.
To remove everything Yakitsuke keeps, delete the app and the folders ~/Library/Application Support/Yakitsuke and ~/Library/Logs/Yakitsuke.
Your camera
To develop a photo, the app sends the RAF to your camera over USB, takes back the result, and deletes the temporary file from the camera. It reads the camera’s serial number to recognise it while connected, but does not save it or send it to us. It changes the camera’s custom settings (C1–C7) only when you ask, and backs all of them up first.
If macOS is holding the camera, the Release camera button stops the macOS processes that claimed it (ptpcamerad and PTPCamera). It does this only when you click it.
Update checks
The app checks updates.yakitsuke.com for a new version when it starts, every 4 hours while it runs, and when you click Check for updates. Versions up to 0.3.0-beta.4 use yakitsuke-updates.richohan.workers.dev, which is the same server.
- What the request carries: your IP address and a generic user agent, as any internet request does. It also carries a random ID that the update library (electron-updater) creates once per installation for staged rollouts. It does not carry your name, photos, library or settings.
- What we do with it: our server answers with the latest version and does not read, log or store the ID or your IP address. It adds one to that day’s count of update checks, and when the app downloads a new version, to that version’s count (see Counts).
- New versions download in the background and install when you quit. There is currently no setting to turn update checks off; they stop while the app is closed.
Bug reports
A report is sent only when you open Report a problem (or accept the offer after a crash), review its contents and click Send. Nothing is sent automatically. You can choose Save as file instead and send nothing.
What a report contains
| Part | Details |
|---|---|
| What you write | The title, description and steps, and your email if you give one. |
| App and system | App version, macOS version, processor type, language and region setting, how long the app had been running, and whether its last run ended unexpectedly. |
| Camera | Model, firmware, connection state and battery level. The serial number is replaced with a short code. |
| Diagnostics | The last 7 days of app and USB logs, recent queue and conversion history (with file names, recipe names and settings), library counts, the app’s settings, a random ID Yakitsuke creates for this installation (not the update ID above), and crash data from the last 7 days. |
| Screenshot | Only if you tick the box, which is off by default. It shows the app window, which can include your thumbnails and file names. |
Removed before sending: your Mac user name, the names of your library and export folders (replaced with short codes), and the camera serial number. File names and recipe names are kept. Crash data and screenshots are not changed. Crash data is a snapshot of the app’s memory at the time of a crash and can contain anything the app had open, such as file paths.
Never included: your photos or RAW files.
Where a report goes and how long it is kept
- Reports go to
report.yakitsuke.comand are stored with Cloudflare. They are deleted automatically after 90 days. - A summary is filed as an issue in our private GitHub repository so we can track the fix. It holds the title, description, steps, the app, macOS and camera details above, and the first 8 characters of the installation ID. It does not include your email, logs, crash data or screenshot. Issues are kept until we delete them; ask us and we will delete yours.
- To investigate, we may download a report to our own computer. We delete those copies when we no longer need them.
- Your IP address is used only to limit how many reports can be sent per minute. It is not stored.
- Your email is used only to tell you about the problem you reported. The app also remembers it on your Mac to fill in next time, once you send the report or save it as a file. Versions up to 0.3.0-beta.4 save it as soon as you move past the first step, even if you then don’t send.
After sending, the app shows a report ID (for example YK-7Q2M4X). Quote it if you want us to look at, correct or delete your report.
AI agents (optional)
This is off until you turn on Let AI agents use Yakitsuke in Settings. Then AI apps on your Mac that you connect, such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code, can use Yakitsuke’s tools through a connection that only programs on your Mac can reach.
- The tools can show the AI app your photo list (file names, folder paths and shooting information), your recipes, the camera’s status (without its serial number) and preview images (scaled down, with no metadata). They can also create recipes, export files and add folders.
- Yakitsuke itself sends none of this to any AI service. The AI app you connect may send what it receives to its provider, under that provider’s privacy policy.
- Add to Claude Desktop adds a Yakitsuke entry to Claude Desktop’s configuration file, keeping a copy of the original the first time.
Counts
To see how many people install and use Yakitsuke, and which links bring them, the update server counts three things, only as totals:
- Downloads through
updates.yakitsuke.com/download, with the version, the campaign tag in the link if it has one (such as?ref=newsletter), and the domain of the website you came from, taken from the Referer header (the domain only, not the page). - Updates: each time the app downloads a new version, with the version.
- Update checks.
Each count also records the day and the country, which Cloudflare works out from your IP address. Requests from link previews and crawlers are marked so we can leave them out. The counts contain no IP address, ID, user agent or cookie, so they can’t be linked to you or to each other. They are stored in Cloudflare’s Workers Analytics Engine and deleted after three months.
This website
yakitsuke.com uses no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts, and its fonts are served from this site. Cloudflare hosts it and processes your IP address to deliver the pages. Our code does not log visits. If you open the site through a link with a campaign tag (?ref=…), the page adds the tag to its download links. Nothing is stored in your browser.
Service providers
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the website, update downloads and bug reports (privacy policy).
- GitHub, Inc. stores bug report summaries in a private repository (privacy statement).
Both may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. We don’t sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Why we use this data
Update checks keep the app working and secure, which is our legitimate interest and yours. Bug reports are sent because you choose to send them, and we use them only to find and fix problems. You can ask us to delete a report at any time. Counts show us whether Yakitsuke reaches people and which links work, which is our legitimate interest; they contain nothing that identifies you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act and the EU and UK GDPR, you can ask to see, get a copy of, correct or delete data we hold about you, or ask us to stop using it. Write to support@yakitsuke.com with your report ID if you have one. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Sending a bug report is optional. If you don’t, the app works the same; we just can’t see the problem.
Children
Yakitsuke is not directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the app starts sending anything new, the policy will say so before that version is released.
